` DARIUS GOYLE: things were about to get worse in the wizarding world. he could tell from the letter that he had received from his father. it was a simple message to stay out of the way of the death eaters and to not follow any of them. his father had wanted him to become a death eater after he graduated from hogwarts though wanted him to stay safe. after all, he was the only child of his parents. as for darius, he didn't have much care for either side in the war. if he chose a side, it meant that he was a target to the other. he had decided to remain in the middle of the whole thing, wanting no part of it. if the death eaters had no involvement in the wizarding world, he would have wanted to be a dragonologist. it was a dangerous job, but one that he had held high interest in since going to see dragons with his father in romania. unlike a good amount of death eaters, his parents had treated him well after his father saw vincent crabbe die during his last year. with that death, gregory had became a different man. he had stood up to anyone that attempted to tell him what to do. when it came to his son, he expected the boy to show him respect though they had a normal father and son relationship. another difference was that he would never hit the boy unless he did something really awful. as for his mother, they had a good relationship though not as close. darius knew that the day would come when he would have to tell his father that he didn't care to be involved in the war and wanted to move to romania to study dragons. it was something that not many people could declare with so many deaths happening. it would take a lot to get him to choose a side in the war. darius folded the letter and placed it in his pocket. he was standing by the clock tower, watching the scene below. a student had just stood up to a death eater and was being tortured in front of other students, to show that no one would stand up to the death eaters without consequence. things in hogwarts had been so different since the death eaters had taken over. he undid the green tie that he wore around his neck as the torture down below ended. darius wondered why everyone felt it was necessary to use violence for everything. it would have been so much smarter to have talked things out. after all, history was just going to keep repeating itself. it was not in the odds for either side to completely win before all hell broke loose again.

the only exception , was it really ever worth the risk? Madison never wanted any part of the war. She grew up ignorant to it, her family relatively neutral as far as she knew. It wasn't until her mother owled her about the death eaters coming to power that things began to change. Her father was in deeper than she thought, and the results were ... detrimental to Madison's health, but worse for her baby brother's. She found herself walking back onto the grounds when she saw the scene of a fifth year student getting tortured. Her heart froze suddenly as her body came to an abrupt halt. Madison watched, her memories flashing back to the moment she was held back and saw her brother in a similar situation. Clenching her jaw she pushed passed the scene, running up the stairs- a hand whipping through her hair to keep it out of her face.
"Fuck." she breathed, sitting on the steps to the clock tower, putting her head in her hands. Why did she happen on those meetings. she couldn't get away from the chaos and there was no way. She stood up, running a hand over her face- knowing better than to stay in one place for too long when she happened on a boy standing there, watching the scene below. "Unbelievable." she snapped, recognizing the man from her classes, and remembering his father even more so. "Get a kick out of people getting tortured, goyle?" She snapped at him, irriationally angry, but that was her norm these days.

` DARIUS GOYLE: people treated darius different because of his father, who had done some horrible things in the past. even in the present, he was working with the death eaters to ensure that they would remain in charge. however, his father had told him of how he had helped tortured numerous members of other families. he hadn't been told names instead learning, if they were older or younger. the younger ones, the death eaters took more pride in since they would have to live like that for years to come. unless, of course the death eaters decided to kill them before the old age take their lives. darius had pretended to listen with the intent of one day, being the same way. when his father had ended his discussion about it, he would have went back to quidditch in the backyard or studying dragons. darius was pulled out of his thoughts when a voice snapped at him. he turned around, recognizing the girl as someone that he had classes with, of course. in classes, the students mostly went by their last names thus he only remembered that her last name was goldstein. the family was famous in the past few years for the traumas that had came to them. her parents had been killed by a death eater. as for her younger brother, he had read that he was tortured into insanity. it was probably the attitude that she had started to give to him, that was the downfall of her family because they probably had the same attitude. darius tugged the tie off, it was irritating him about as much as the girl was when she asked, if he got a kick of people getting tortured. he said, "contrary to popular belief, not all of us slytherins are horrible though if you keep up that attitude, i may get a kick out of them torturing you, goldstein." he had came off as an ass, but she needed to hear it. her attitude was going to get her hurt more than anything else. he wasn't fond of anyone comparing him to his family without knowing more behind the cover of his own life as well.

the only exception , was it really ever worth the risk? She felt a scoff rise in her throat and glanced away, feeling steam rise up to her face. Damn him, she thought, the entire bloody entity of this asshole. His whole family could feel her wrath, as far as she was concerned. She didn't give a damn if people asked if Daddy Goyle was worth going after, tracking down and punching him repeatedly in the face. Because to her, he was. He was worth every god damn knee to the ball-sack she'd give him. And he could fucking deal with it. Because he ruined her brother's life. The entire bit of it and made her watch, helpless.
"Well, you missed it. What a shame." she spoke acerbically. That asshole, she glared at him though also felt the urge to roll her eyes at him at the same time. He was immediately infuriating, most people backed down from her anger and angst but in this case he pushed back and the game was on. She needed to get this anger out, and what a perfect target. The son of the asshole who fucked up her brother. She choked on the thought. "Maybe next time. I don't suppose your father turns his wand on his precious boy, though. Only other's." She spoke, her jaw clenching. She was being a bitch, but it was her natural state recently. And it was safe for her. Particularly when she found herself face to face with this man.
"Oh but don't worry, I'm not judging you based on your house. It's just you. Salazar can roll in his grave for all I care." She exhaled and turned away, irritated by him. Finding the release making her feel better, she couldn't keep this up. She felt angry all the time with nobody to turn to.

` DARIUS GOYLE: darius could only roll his eyes though didn't leave his spot from in front of the clock tower. he wasn't the type to walk up and attempt to intimidate a girl. he had more respect for girls than some may have respected from a goyle. his father hadn't been in many relationships during his school years due to how he tried to intimidate girls when he talked to them. as for his mother, she was practically the same way. it was the reason why the two had fallen in love, how ironic. he stood his ground firm. darius said, "that is unfortunate." he figured that the deaths of her parents and torture of her brother could have contributed to her being such a bitch. though there was the chance that she was always like that. he found her to be quite irritating to no end and they had only just started talking or snapping at one each other. this must have been how guys felt when dealing with a girlfriend, who just didn't want to corporate over anything. he folded his arms over his chest with a sigh, growing tired of her comments. she knew how to get under his skin. darius said, "actually no, he reserves that violence for anyone who is impure." did he believe the things that he was throwing out of his mouth like spitfire? not entirely. as a neutral party, he was pretty neutral on the whole blood thing as well. he thought purebloods were better wizards and witches because they would have kept the talent in their families for generations. however, he was not against being friends with anyone that was not a pureblood. darius said, "i would say that the attack on my father means you are judging me, based on him. i don't recall my name being gregory goyle." it was weird to say his father's first name. despite her anger at him for no reason except for standing in front of the clock tower, he hadn't budged from where he stood. his eyes were more like daggers than anything else at the present time and it was rare for them to be like that.

the only exception , was it really ever worth the risk? Now Maddie rolled her eyes, "Oh, you're probably right," She said, drawing her tones carefully. "If you were anything like him you'd be the one driving that kid insane." she told him in that age-old way that suggested that there was more. And boy was there, "Instead you're being a really tip-top Samaritan bystander. Truly wonderful." Sarcasm dripped from her tongue like venom. Maddie didn't have the power to stop whatever it was that was going on down there. But there were people who did and did nothing about it. She lost faith in the order a while ago because of it. They had numbers now, she heard the rumors. And they would ignore Hogwarts. "Perhaps I shouldn't judge you based on the fact that you wouldn't do any harm to anyone. But I wonder if you'd stand by idly if your father was torturing your best friend before your eyes." She snapped at him. Biting her words.
he wasn't on some pedestal for not being like his father, and neither was she. In fact, she sunk lower than she'd ever believe. Maddie used to be a sweetheart know it it all who talked far too much about classes and facts that nobody else cared about. They made her feel special to know because one day she'd just want to be important enough to one person. To be cared about enough to be remembered if it was a strange singular odd duck like her. It was in the past.
The girl was no harsh and seemingly had no relationship to the old girl with the smiles that could brighten a room. She was hurt beyond belief, the only kindness that she had left was reserved for her visits with her brother. How she sat by his chair and read stories and her homework for hours, watching him laugh at the wrong times and love her... if just to forget who she was seconds after. The word un-pure settled in her stomach like poison. She repeated it to herself and turned to walk away. "fancy yourself different all you want, Goyle- but just go on and wait. you may find you have to do something you'll regret." | @open words; xxx notes <3 |

` DARIUS GOYLE: darius said, "you're criticizing me for not doing anything yet you walked right by and did nothing to help the kid." she was a bystander just like him, she had even walked right by it. he had seen her walk right by when she could have stood up for the kid. if a goldstein didn't stand up for a kid being tortured then it was unlikely a goyle would. her sarcasm was nothing, but ridiculous. he had rumors about the order rising up though if they cared so much, they would have been focusing their attention on hogwarts and not on other things. hogwarts had all their kids in the school, brothers and sister, people being tortured daily. the order had done nothing yet to prove themselves as winning the castle, prison, or ministry back for good. it was one of the reasons why he didn't choose a side. he felt neither side would permanently win. plus, he would have rather lived in romania on his own and not have a constant target on his back. he said, "my father wouldn't torture my best friend, to be perfectly honest." his father hadn't learned of him not caring much for having all pureblood friends, but that was something that he didn't plan to go into. every little detail of everyone was not needed to be known to his parents. darius was already getting a headache from the girl, who luckily was turning to walk away. good, she was finally leaving. of course, she had one more remark to make. he just sighed, thinking, 'go away already'. darius said, "if you say so, goldstein." with that statement, he hoped that she would go away and go back to sulking in a corner about her family misery.

the only exception , was it really ever worth the risk? She spoke without thinking, and immediately regretted it. "I'm still recovering from the last time I did." There was not much she could do to help. Not in this lifetime. she had to stick around for her brother, not that the healers thing he even has a chance of snapping back out of it. The cruciatus curse warps your brain, where there's not much more than pain left. And she was so worried, so scared that she couldn't face it anymore. Madison wanted to leave. Get as far away from these terrible people as soon as she could and find a place where her brother could too. She just hoped that he was far enough gone that he didn't relive what happened to him and was safe on his own little island. But she wasn't given answers and she didn't think she would.
"How lucky for you," She murmured, but she highly doubted it. The boy was quiet and annoying, she didn't feel better, she just wanted to kick him in the shin at least, couldn't she have that? Him push back enough that she was driven mad with rage and couldn't be held accountable for her actions. But he... was being normal. Not as ticked off as she'd hoped. And it wasn't enough for her, she needed more, she would find someone in the castle that would get just as mad at her. But as she turned away she missed the step and barely caught herself on the railing of the steps, her things flying down in front of her. "just great." she muttered, feeling a twinge of a pain in her ankle. | @open words; xxx notes <3 |

` DARIUS GOYLE: darius said, "that is why you don't get involved at all. no need to recover from anything." he had felt the effects of the cruciatus curse once during the dark arts when they had to practice it on one another. it was an uncomfortable feeling, being tortured. it felt as though someone was stabbing him repeatedly though he was unsure if the effects were the same to others. in his opinion, the curse had different effects on people. it was of course, torture though it probably did not feel as if someone was stabbing them repeatedly. darius had heard of the list of people put in st. mungo's from the curse though that list was never going to end. the curse was a perfect punishment for anyone that the death eaters did not like. it was better than death as they sat around the ward, not aware of who was sitting with them. they barely talked or if they did, they babbled on about nonsense. his father hadn't gone much into detail over the ones he assisted in torturing unless it was some grand victory. some huge name such as a member of the malfoy family. the goldstein girl turned to leave though she missed a step and appeared to have barely caught herself. the things in her hands had went flying down the steps. he put his hand on his face, thinking 'clumsy girl' and had he not covered his face, he would have laughed. he moved his hand and walked over to the steps. he rolled his eyes as he walked down the first step and said, "this is how you walk down the steps, goldstein." he slowly went on the second step, smirking at her. however, he continued down the rest of the steps normally and grabbed her things as he went down. the items were just school supplies, of course. when he had reached the last item which had fallen all the way down to the last step, he made his way back up to her. darius said, "i will carry them down for you, if you need the assistance and judging from your face, you need it." he wasn't sure, if she had injured her ankle or what though he wasn't entirely a jerk. he had respect for girls, no matter how bitchy they were to him.

the only exception , was it really ever worth the risk? Her life hardly mattered, but she wanted to say that. It didn't matter that she had to recover. There was nobody to worry about her as it was. Instead she bit her lip. Great, lecture her on being a no-passioned ass. If the death eaters stepped in once in a while, there wouldn't be so many students in the hospital wings consistently. But he didn't care and there really was no point lecturing that to him. There wasn't a force in the world that could get someone like the death eaters to change their attitude towards someone else. "Well, maybe that's your motto." She spoke, shaking her head as though she was erasing a negative thought, one that she didn't even recognize.
Maddie was mortified when she fell. She put on this strong act so well, fighting anyone who so much as looked at her because it was her natural reaction to preserve herself, so things didn't hit too close to home. She clenched her jaw, trying out the foot again. Fuck. she thought but heard him again. "Ha. ha." she spoke dryly, watching him walk by her before her sight flickered away, trying to get a different thing to focus on until he walked away completely. But he didn't. He walked passed her and began picking up her things. What was he doing? She considered calling out and saying that those were her things. But that's the time he turned back around and approached her. She forced herself into a stronger standing position, looking him in the eye. She needed the help, the pain in her foot was worse than she thought and swallowing her pride she tilted her head to the side. "I don't understand. Why are you helping me?" The girl asked, a furrowed brow, eyes not leaving his, trying to figure him out, as though he were a puzzle to solve instead of an idiot to punch. | @open words; xxx notes <3 |

` DARIUS GOYLE: darius had grabbed each of her items and had walked back up to her. he wasn't going to stay at the bottom of the stairs, in case she decided to yell at him. it was a surprise when she didn't yell at him as he gathered the items that had fallen down the steps. when he had gotten back up to her, she looked confused to him. the goldstein girl had asked him why he was helping her. darius frowned a bit as if she really had the biased judgment as other families had of all slytherins. that he would have been a complete jerk like plenty in his house. darius said, "while you are annoying and a bit too bitchy for my liking, i wouldn't just leave a girl to limp down the steps and attempt to pick up everything that she has dropped. by the way like every girl, you carry too many things." he had been a bit blunt towards her in his feelings about her after only one chat with one another. however, she needed help getting down the steps thus she wasn't going to do anything to him about those comments. darius said, "by the way, my name is darius." he figured he would have given her, his name since he hated being called by just his last name. the two had referred to each other by their last names since they hadn't really known each other until the chat moments ago. darius didn't offer his hand to her, figuring she would want to attempt making it down the stairs without a hand to hold onto. he started walking down the steps slowly in case she did fall yet again and said, "well, we don't want to be on the stairs all day, if you wanna try moving!" he was only about two steps in front of her.

the only exception , was it really ever worth the risk? This was the type of kindness that Madison tended to shy away from. Purely because it didn't make any sense. Someone that came from the horror of a father that he had, and he was helping her. Obviously there had to be some alternative motive. She knew good people, and even they had their own reasons for doing things. She had her reasons too. She found herself physically incapable to truly reach out any longer, it's as though the kindness that actually came easily to Maddie, was enough to shatter her again, so she fought it, in the meantime fighting those around her.
But unable to curb her recent acerbic tongue, Maddie rolled her eyes, "Well I never intended you to like me." obviously She spoke simply, and beginning to consider moving on the ankle. So he was raised to help women. Why? Because they were inept of doing so themselves? Probably, though, it was nice o know that they were taught at least one kindness while they were given every torture spell in the book.
Shifting her weight, she met his eyes before looking away, listening to his words and repressing an eye-roll. "As you probably well know, no girl likes being shoved in the category of every other girl." She murmured, but shook her head, "And I find I carry exactly the right amount, except when faced with traumatic staircases." She was still being sarcastic, but her tone was almost nicer... almost. At his outburst, irritation flooded back in and Maddie started moving down the stairs, clenching her jaw as she moved while using the railing as support. Luckily the Ravenclaw tower wasn't too far away. But she looked at the newly named darius and spoke again, "My name is Maddie." It seemed silly to tell him this. She wanted to tell him everything.

` DARIUS GOYLE: when people introduced themselves to him, they figured that he would have been just like his father or mother. both of them weren't exactly the kindest people and fully supported the death eaters presently. with the death eaters in control of everything, there was no point in hiding that support since they were untouchable. at least that was what his father and mother thought because they were too gullible to think the order stood a chance against them. darius knew eventually he would be asked to get a dark mark and while he would have said yes to his parents' face, he was highly considering bailing on the event. even if it meant getting tortured for not getting a dark mark on his left forearm, it wasn't him nor would it ever be unless he was under the imperius curse. he surprised many people, who thought the goyles were all the same since even his grandfather had been a death eater. for some people, once you met one member of the family, they all were looked at as being the same. when he had made it back up to her and she mentioned that she never intended for him to like her, he just laughed. darius said, "i don't know if it is just me, but you are that way to a lot of other people." while they hadn't talked before this face to face, he had seen her around other people. she always appeared to be looking for a fight. it was surprising that she was a daughter of the goldstein family since her parents hadn't been known for getting involved in much drama. at least that was his parents had told him about them. maybe they were involved in drama since they both had been killed and their son had been tortured. why madison had been spared was a complete mystery and usually that was never a good thing since death eaters hated having loose ends. he led the way, two steps ahead of her each time, carrying her things as she kept the conversation going. he said, "well, the stairs must have known how much of an attack dog you were to me when all i was doing, was standing up here." the sarcasm lingered in his own voice as much as it did in hers. they were about midway down the stairs when she told him her name, maddie which was clearly short for madison or madelyn. darius said, "madison. much better than calling you by goldstein." he wasn't sure why he said that, but it was correct since being called by his own last name was weird unless it was a professor.
