Ariella had been praying for people to stop by at the bar but no one did, and they didn’t for days now. Though it wasn’t hers to say, the business was getting bad and whether it would recover she couldn’t tell. Ariella sat behind the bar looking up at the ceiling. They would open up in an hour and no one really knew she worked here except the old crane of a Winters. She didn’t even call him by the first name anymore. It just wasn’t her style.
But the basic reason for her being here was because of one person roaming these streets. Grandpa. Ariella wanted to know everything he did to her and know that it was either truly because of him protecting her or because of him being a huge coward. Ariella probably already knew the answer but he had yet to come into the bar she worked in. If Winters was as good as a friend to her grandfather as he said he is then the old man would know soon enough.
Ariella sighed as she heard the door crack. What the? It is locked and the bar isn’t open until 8 pm.. it isn’t even 5. Ariella wasn’t sure if she should get up on her feet or not. What if the death eaters came barging in on her bar because they think her grandfather is in here? What if they wont listen and kill her anyways? Ariella wasn’t planning on finding out. The girl unlocked the lock and got behind the bar pouring herself a glass of fire whiskey.
If she acted normal like nothing is up than no one would notice her being strange? Alive? It isn’t like she saw posters with her head on it so she should be somewhat safe. Ariella took a rather large gulp from the whiskey as she watched the wooden door crack and screech as it slowly opened up. Whoever entered was either looking for a place to get a drink or she would be dead soon. What if she grew mentally insane? And would never know her future?
Oh god she did sound like an idiot already. Ariella relaxed her body though her spare hand rested on her wand. She didn’t own this bar and she wasn’t going to let it be destroyed until her boss gets here. She licked her lips softly as she watched whoever coming in. At first she didn’t recognize this person. She never remembered customers except the daily ones who kept coming here hoping to find themselves a score in bed, something that will never happen with her.
Ariella held out a glass to the person coming in. “ Need a drink? “ she certainly did.

”THE LOSS OF POWER CAN KILL US; OR MAKE US KILLERS...” ”Umbra Occultatio”whispered the old man as he waved his wand across his face, slowly he could feel shadows covering his face, effectively showing a black mask. He saw normally as he walked down the streets of Knockturn Alley slowly moving along the sides of the street. He had grown lucky, no one was currently on the street except for a few beggars that were currently asleep. Stupid idiotic little girl…has she no idea everything I have done for her thought Arik as he made his way to the bar, he had learn about the details of her ventures of working here though Gerald. The message had been risky getting through since someone was sure they were all alive. Should have built a damn dungeon thought Arik he approached the door of the small run-down bar with a wave of his wand it unlocked and slightly cracked. Taking a deep breath, before he entered, it had been three long years since had seen his youngest grandchild of them all, Ariella.
Pushing the door forward he stepped in shutting it behind him and with a wave of his wand the door locked behind him, moving slowly up to the bar he spotted her offering the newcomer, him, a drink. He waved the wand in front of his face the concealment charm removed showing it to be the grandfather of the young girl in front of him. ”Did we not have an understanding Ariella? Do you have any idea how foolish it is for you to be in Knockturn Alley of all places?” spoke Arik his voice gruff as usually. ”Imperturbatus” he muttered pointing his wand at the door, a small beam of light shot out hitting it. Imperturbable the door was , preventing anyone from eavesdropping in. His eyes looked at his granddaughter, part of them showed anger but happiness to know she was truly alive.

The mere idea of her grandfather showing his face in this bar just made shivers go down her spine. Not of fear but more anger and disappointment. She had hoped he would be better than this, better than hiding his family out just so he could fight alone and be mister tough guy. Ariella wasn’t very surprised when she saw the stranger was nothing more than her own grandfather.
For over three years he hasn’t shown his face and now here he was, in his full glory. She watched him using a spell that would make anyone unable to hear whatever is going on inside the bar. Clever but not necessary. Ariella rolled her eyes at him as she poured him a strong drink. Of course he would barge in and start giving her a lecture about how horrible she decided to have a job instead of making sure there is money to pay for food.
“ You know good evening wouldn’t be much out of place before barking at me grandpa. “ she sighed and took a sip of her own drink. She understood that he was upset but really how could he ever expect her to sit and wait like a puppy dog hoping she wouldn’t get killed. Hell if it weren’t for him she would not even be on death row to begin with. Ariella totally blamed him for putting her on the black list of people who are supposed to be dead.
“ Oh I missed you too by the way. Thanks for asking how I am and for the birthday wishes! “ she sighed and took another sip of her drink motioning to him to take a seat. Should be much more comfortable than standing. Ariella wasn’t sure how to do this, she wasn’t going to just join him in this useless battle, a battle the death eaters won. Maybe she should just show them that she is on their side and maybe they could have her family be spared from their wrath, it isnt something they did.
Her grandfather on the other hand was responsible and to her its time he paid for it and she wouldnt have to anymore. “ I have worked here for over 2 years, nobody knows who i am lest say where i come from. “ she spoke with a frown and took a larger gulp from her drink. The girl didnt know what to tell him to be honest. She thought that the day they would meet she would have so much to say but she just did not. The man was surely intimidating but the time she was scared of him has passed.
“You sure you don’t want a drink?”

”THE LOSS OF POWER CAN KILL US; OR MAKE US KILLERS...” He was furious with his granddaughter that she would even take this position knowing she was in hiding for a reason. The things he was doing to make sure she wasn’t brought out and killed or used in leverage against him. When they killed her dad, his son, it tore him up inside seeing him fall at the Ministry he had been a talented Auror but they were outnumbered and out matched. He nodded slowly at what she said to him, considering it her back talk sass that she seemed to give him. Or was it just fate that she out of the four grandkids of the Waters, could not see what he was trying to do. He looked down for a second as she spoke of the birthday wishes that he had missed for the last three years, he truly did feel bad. He had wish everything could be different that he never had to put this plan into action, did she think he liked not seeing them and his own wife for the last three years. ”Don’t believe for a second I have not missed you or any of you for that matter, your grandmother understands why I have done this” spoke Arik his tone was softer this time but still gruff in some ways.
He knew his wife, Ariella’s grandmother, had helped him make this plan to put them in hiding in dire circumstances but however; he knew she would rather be fighting with him. Two years? That damn idoit let her work here for two years! the thought growled its way into his head as he shook his head and grabbed the drink she had poured for him. He took a big swig of it before placing the glass back on the bar, than taking a seat where she had motioned. ”Your days of working here are numbered Ariella. Hate me or whatever but I am protecting you from being used as leverage against me or the Order or worse you being hunted and killed like a dog” spoke Arik his voice was firm when he talked. He knew that someone was on to their secret of them being dead, someone knew his family was alive and somewhere in the world. He finished the drink and pushed the glass over to the his granddaughter for her to fill it back up, knowing he was going to need another drink to deal with whatever feelings of anger she bent up toward him.

YOU'RE GONNA CATCH A COLD from the ice inside your soul Ariella was not up for a discussion, she was quite done with this man right now. Call her a coward but she knew how powerful he could be and though she refused to believe that she is a coward, she wanted no fight with this old man. Age said nothing when it came to her grandfather and she damn well knew it. Ariella wanted more than sit back and wait, she wanted in on this fight. Ariella took a sip of her own drink and frowned. She didn’t care whether Grandma knew or doesn’t know anything. She wanted to decide for herself and not let anyone else do it for her in any way possible.
“ You don’t get it do you? I don’t care who knows and who doesn’t. I only care about the choice of either faking my death or fight has been taken away from me because I was considered a mere child. Maybe it is hard for you to see but I am not a child anymore. “ she sighed and leaned against the bar. Yes Ariella has problems with being called a child when she is a grown woman of 20 years old. But her grandfather would have known if he would have been there when she celebrated her birthday.
She was sure that Arik is pissed at Winters right now, two old man blabbering because one girl got out of the house, oh boy what a huge problem. Ariella wondered if Arik even realized where they have been hiding, how out of the public it is and how they need food and supplies to survive. She provided the money for those things and Arik just didn’t seem to understand that. Though she wouldn’t be surprised if she did this for nothing but she got a deal with Winters and Arik isn’t going to take that bit of freedom away from her.
When her grandfather spoke again she rolled her eyes. Of course it is always about him and the order. The order meant so much to her so called safety. “ Right you work with that Potter guy. I can’t possibly understand why you need these people so badly on your side. If im right you and your order got us in this mess in the first place. If the order kept their nose outside of our house and you wouldn’t have been so kind to help them we would be alive and well. “ she groaned and stood up straight pouring him another drink.
“ Whether you like to hear this or not grandpa, you sentenced us to death the day you joined the order. Somewhat you should be happy that I don’t blame your choices in this war for dad’s death. “ she said a bit choking in her words. Her father meant everything to her and now he is dead because of this stupid war where he and her grandfather chose the wrong side. The side that has lost everything. If they never got themselves mixed up with the order, this mess wouldn’t exist.
“ Oh I aint going anywhere. I had a deal with Winters and I’m not going to back down from it. “. If she backs down now.. the chances of seeing the cute reporter again would be beyond zero and the mere idea of not being able to get to know him wasn’t going through her thick skull. He seemed to be the only person who actually cared about her life and not the life of others around her while she was just a name on a piece of parchment.

”THE LOSS OF POWER CAN KILL US; OR MAKE US KILLERS...” She had no idea the danger she was easily subjecting herself to as Arik saw it as he just eyed her as she spoke. The look on his face showed no anger or even frustration but pure disappointment as she spoke, he thought she would have knew better. He could see a little reason on why she was angry at not being given a choice between fighting or having her death faked. However; it was simple she was alone, no other siblings to be by her, and her dad gone. In his view he was responsible for her safety during such a dangerous time and he was not certain she would actually have chosen to fight for them exactly. He shook his head slightly as she kept going on, her speaking about the Order he found disbelieving and troubling as well. She really thought that if he had kept his entire nose out of the Order business that they would never be in this predicament he almost laughed at the foolish idea.
They would kill you anyways Order or not thought Arik he looked at her after he rolled his eyes back at her. ”Your smarter than this Ariella. I was a Head Auror and at the time they attacked head of my department, Order membership or not they were going to target me. Lord Voldemort killed a predecessor of mine personally, or did you miss that in History class? ” spoke Arik his tone was firm as he spoke looking directly at her. ”Also I was a member of the Order during the first war because I refuse to live in a world where they murder people because not being a pure blood. Do you sympathize with these creatures?” he added quickly, giving her a confused look.
The old man’s face of disappointment quickly changed one to one twisted with anger and sadness, as his granddaughter spoke of her father, his son. He had seen his son killed in front of him, turning around while dueling to see him hit and fall down, at that moment he had felt pain like never before, along with a level of fury that he unleashed to others that faithful night. ”You don’t have to blame me…I…already blame myself” spoke Arik he looked down for a second it was completely true. Part of him honestly felt that he was to be blamed because he had not be able to protect his son. Countless nights for months afterwards as he went in hiding he would spend awake wondering if he had looked over just seconds or minute sooner, that he might have been able to protect him, and save him even. Looking up now he gave her a puzzled look about the deal she had with Gerald and let out a sigh of just frustration.
”Listen to me Ariella…your deal with him is nothing to me ok? Someone knows that were alive…they have been looking they already had someone in the Americas looking for you all. You’re not a child, than stop believing these fairy tales that the death eaters are going to let you live. I am trying to protect you damn it! I am not losing any more of my family!!” said Arik his voice raised, and fist banged on the counter extremely hard making his glass fall over at once. The idea of losing anyone else in his family to the scum of the world, death eaters was enough to set his temper off.
