LIFE ON THE MOON Jonathan climbed down the rickety stairs of Number 12 Grimmauld Place, trying to be careful not to wake the crazy, banshee of a portrait that nobody in the Order had yet managed to get off of the wall. He sadly had been calling this decrepit old place home for quite a while. It was barely safe for him to go out much anymore, having been sacked and nearly arrested with the takeover the Ministry so he was feeling a bit shut in and useless. The Order did send him on missions, yes. But they were most often out of country, or simple "retrieve this" kind of tasks. Some had been murmuring that him not having had completed Auror training, he might not be terribly qualified for the most dangerous missions.
As he finished descending the stairs he found himself to making a resolution. He'd find another one of the Auror's and have them teach him a few things so the others would finally see him as a component wizard, and not simply a "pretty face." He ruffled his hair as he crept slowly down the dim corridor toward the kitchen. He'd make himself something to eat, and wait until he could snag someone to ask the favor of.
Jonathan pushed the creaky, frayed wooden door to the kitchen open and was pleasantly surprised to find Arik Waters, his former boss. He supposed he couldn't have had better luck. Jonathan nodded politely and said, "Morning, Mr. Waters. What brings you to the Fortress this early?"

”THE LOSS OF POWER CAN KILL US; OR MAKE US KILLERS...” Early October morning he had found himself back at Grimmauld Place 12 this morning, having been elsewhere in London for the night. He had been traveling across different pubs all night hoping to catch a word or secret of him, or anything about his family in anything, weather it was a stretch or not. Now he found himself in the kitchen waving his wand as teapot started to heat up. With another flick of his wand the pot poured some of the tea into a silver cup embolden with an eagle for the house of Ravenclaw. It was part of a set that his wife had bought him, knowing how much he enjoyed his tea of all different kinds. He took a seat at the table this time on the other side so he could see who would enter the doorway of the kitchen his back facing the wall. Our goals have to be abandoned, this is bigger than just us the thought danced its way into his head as he took sip of the tea.
He knew his chances of becoming Minister were all but gone, with the current regime and even afterwards if they won, he was old. The younger generation would see him as to worn from decades of fighting, to actually lead in times when fighting was done. He looked up as he could tell someone was in the hallway about to enter the kitchen, and soon he saw Jonathan Watts greeting him. Watts had been an Auror in training, cut short because of the Ministry takeover. He had shown potential to be an accomplished Auror one day. ”Needed some tea, not many safe places for this old man around here. Plus Japan was too far away” responded Arik giving a little smile and putting his hand to offer some tea from the tea pot on the stove.
”How are you doing Mr. Watts”? asked Arik drinking some tea before placing the cup back down on the table.

LIFE ON THE MOON Jonathan noticed the tea kettle and summoned himself a tea cup and saucer and began pouring himself a glass. He chuckled softly as the man explained his presence at Grimmauld Place. He could empathize with Arik, they were very much in the same boat. Both jobless and having few opportunities to go out and socialize. Not too mention the horrible things that happened at Waters Manor. It made him sad just thinking about it. Not too mention Arik himself had been a shoe in for Minister for Magic. And her Jonathan was grumbling that he had never made it to full Auror.
This made him hesitate when Arik had asked him how he was doing. He looked up from his tea, and feigned a smile. "Oh, I'm doing well." He said telling a poor lie, and he immediately knew he hadn't sold it well at all. His expression fell and he looked a bit sour before he spoke,"Feeling a bit useless to be honest. It's like they assume Auror-in-Training means parcel delivery boy around here. As if they see "in-training" and not the fact I was decent enough to be considered."
He immediately looked up into Arik's eyes and wore an apologetic smile. "I shouldn't complain though. I'm not the only person with a bad lot right now, I know that. Just wish I was helping." He added hoping Arik would realize he did appreciate the circumstances others in the Order were far more dire than him whining that he felt slighted.

”THE LOSS OF POWER CAN KILL US; OR MAKE US KILLERS...” He could tell something was wrong with the young man when he first start to speak, the look on his face gave it away to easily. Especially to someone who had spent their life studying the art of Legilimetncy looking for when people lied to him. He didn’t even need to use the skill to tell it was a false answer, and soon the young man corrected himself. He must have been able to tell he had given a horrible lie and wasn’t able to cover it up. He nodded at what the man said about what they felt like “Auror-in-Training meant, he could see where it had ate him if anything. To be studying and working hard to become an Auror and to have it cut short, because of these Death Eaters taking over. It was the like Arik’s dilemma but, on a much smaller scale however, he felt and understood the pain. ”Well you should lie better, I’m a skilled Legilimens Jonathan and I didn’t even need to use it to tell you were lying” spoke Arik, giving him a small smile not trying to be rude, but to impress the importance of masking ones emotions.
He took a few more sips of his tea before waving his wand and having the tea kettle float to him and pour into his cup. Another flick of the wand and the kettle slowly settled its way back onto the stove as the old man stirred the tea in his cup. ”I understand what you mean, you didn’t sign up to be parcel delivery man, an Auror-in-training, deserves better. I am sorry your training was not finished” spoke Arik before taking another sip of his tea. He is willing to fight, we need all the fighters we can get thought Arik nodding his head slowly.
”Jonathan, I’ll be willing to help you finish your Auror training, and help you learn some other spells both defense and offensive. We need everyone who is willing to fight, fighting at their best” spoke Arik his voice clear and firm. Since he had lead the department, he was no longer the hands on instructor of the Aurors but, still had a role in the training and overseeing how it would go. He earned a reputation of being tough, providing little mercy in training sessions and making people push their limits.
