I know it's not exactly standard to post on someone's ad but I wanted to actually support this one. Hammel was an old site I was on. It's been around for YEARS and still going strong. Large membership base. It's really fun and they have interesting sitely activities. Things like power outtages, ability swaps, gender swaps, AUs once a year. Fair warning that they have a kinda long application and they do have standards for acceptance. Be prepared that you'll probably be redoing your application at least once.

Life was never easy for Pete. Ever since he was born he'd been battling just to have a taste of normalcy. With parents that never cared no matter how much he begged, and a brother that would rather beat him to a pulp than leave him be. No, it'd never been easy for Pete growing up. And things just got worse as he got older. Between the drugs and the alcohol Pete'd never kept his head above water to be able to find himself. Let alone normal.
But things had gotten easier the past year. If he didn't think about the crippling amount of money that he owed. Him and Josh were finally clean of just about everything. They had their own apartment. He had a job that was completely legal -even if it wasn't his only job- and Josh seemed happy enough helping out the Witch Hunters. All in all, Pete had no real complaints. Except for the crippling debt and bills that just wouldn't stop coming.
Pete was sitting alone in their apartment on the rickety chair they'd bought from a thrift store, piles of envelopes on the table in front of him. Hospital bills were set to the side, rent bills threatening to kick them out were in front of him, and the real kicker was the pills that still needed bought for the month. Pete's hands shook as he wrote out the total figures alongside what he made working at the cafe and for Jay. By "worked" with them... Pete's gotta know if there's anyway he could continue working with Jay to make money. He'd be real worried and make Jay take almost a blood oath of secrecy not to tell Josh about it, ever. They're sort drowning in debt at the moment and anything Jay could do to help a buddy out would, y'know, keep them from being homeless. Or in jail. Or Josh from going completely ape-shit and stop taking his meds or something crazy like that.
...
Pete'll deal with Jay crossing the line if Jay will let him help with the drug dealing or hawking or whatever to get the money.

Maybe Jay can make fun of Pete (if Jay is an ass at all) for Pete going "straight edge" and not drinking anything or smoking anything or doing any sort of drugs. He was an addict though. So. Yeah.
